In a bathroom it is essential for regular cleaning. Therefore, it can be found both in a shower and a bathtub: The shower set. Whether for showering, showering off the pet or cleaning the shower stall or the tub, the use of a shower set is not limited to just one function.

What is a shower set?

A shower set is made up of various components. However, the elementary components include the following three:

Of course, shower sets can be expanded and filled with more functions as desired. Thus, some models can also include an additional soap dish or storage space for shower gel and shampoo, while other designs have an overhead shower at the same time.

While the overhead or rain shower is usually statically mounted on the shower arm, the hand shower of the shower set can be flexibly removed from the holder on the shower rod. Thus, more intensive cleaning of individual parts of the body is possible thanks to a long shower hose. Mostly, this measures a length of about 120 cm. For example, the feet can be ideally cleaned with a hand shower, while this is almost impossible with a static overhead shower. The shower set is always attached to a shower wall in the shower. The shower bar usually covers a length of about 90 cm and thus offers a wide range in the adjustment of the height of the hand shower.

The shower set for the bathtub is very similar to the one for the shower. The difference is that the bathtub does not have a shower head and a shower bar. Thus, all cleaning functions are performed by the hand shower, in addition to the bath water. Thus, this is used in particular for washing hair or showering off after the bath. Also, a hand shower with shower hose can do without too long, otherwise the hose will hang in the bath water.

Especially for corner bathtubs, a shower set for corner installation can be visually appealing. In this case, the shower set is elegantly integrated into the corner. This can be done using special models or by dividing, for example, the water connection for the shower hose and the holder for the hose. Depending on the shower design, this variant can fit well into the overall concept.Shower set for the bathtub The shower set for the bathtub is very similar to the one for the shower. The difference is that the bathtub does not have a shower head and a shower bar. Thus, all cleaning functions are performed by the hand shower, in addition to the bath water. Shower set with thermostat

Faucets for shower sets are available in the following three variants:

• Single lever mixer  
• Two-lever mixer
• With thermostat

With the single-lever mixer, the water - as the name suggests - can be regulated with just one lever and thus with one hand. As a rule, the amount of water and the water temperature can be adjusted individually at the same time. With the two-lever mixer, the more classic variant, you mix the water yourself using the two levers. In this way, you can regulate both the water temperature and the amount of water. The result is the same as with the single-lever mixer.

In the case of a faucet with thermostat for the shower set, the water temperature can be selected with the help of the thermostat before setting the water. Then only the amount of water is regulated via another element. This variant is the most convenient, as it eliminates the need to find out the personal comfort water temperature and it can be selected directly.

Shower set with shelf

In addition to water, people usually use care products such as soap, shower gel or shampoo for body cleansing. But where is the best place to put them? Many shower sets have a shelf mounted on the shower bar. Here, all the necessary shower utensils can be conveniently placed at a comfortable height. Since the shower rods for bathtubs are different or even omitted, other shelves are often used here.

Shower set with overhead shower or rain shower

Shower sets are also available as a complete set for the shower. This then includes, in addition to the hand shower, shower hose and shower rod, a shower head or rain shower, which is attached to the shower rod. In this case, too, this is usually static. At the same time, the shower bar now also acts as a water inlet for the overhead shower. This solution is ideal for those who want a retrofit overhead shower or do not want to drill additional holes.

Function meets design

But even a shower set that contains just the three most important components is not like any other. Manufacturers such as Villeroy & Boch, Dornbracht or Hansgrohe play with the functions here and at the same time focus on visual highlights. For example, you can choose between sets with a particularly large or an elongated and narrow overhead shower. Whether round, angular or elongated - the manufacturers have taken the liberties and realized many different models. Now it's up to you to decide which model is most suitable, which functions are most important to you and how the shower set should look visually.
